Fatale comic book review

A reporter in 2012 stumbles on a secret that leads him down the darkest path imaginable... to a seductive woman who's been on the run since 1935, a mobster who may be an immortal demon monster, and the stories of all the doomed men who've been caught in their decades-long struggle.

This is the initial description for the 2012 Image Comics series Fatale by Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips. I bought the first volume from OK Comics in October this year after reading the synopsis, and it didn’t disappoint!

It’s got a great mixture of detective noir and horror in equal measure as well as suspense and mystery! I will certainly be getting volume 2 and the subsequent ones as well!

A couple of film reviews!

Hello fellow bloggers!  I haven't dine a post for a LONG time but instead have used Facebook to upload and share my miniature painting etc.  However this past week I got Amazon Prime cheaper for a month my 3 quid so I've watched a couple of films I had wanted to check out regardless of other peoples reviews/opinions!
So firstly we have the 2019 version of Hellboy which didn't do well at the box office, in fact it was ranked 2 on the worst films of 2019 list!  However it wasn't the terrible film I thought it was going to be in my eyes.  The SFX do look like there from a cheesy 80's horror film but overall I'd say plot and performance wise I'd give it a solid 6/10.  Decent but not a masterpiece and nowhere near as good as the  Guillermo del Toro directed films starting the fantastic Ron Perlman!

Next we have the 2016 indie horror film The Void!  Now this has been on my films to watch radar for a while and as a BIG H.P. Lovecraft fan I'd heard it had Lovecraftian vibes and was also a little similar to  the 1989 body horror film Society in it's body horror aspects.  I enjoyed it and would recommend it to other fans of Lovecraftian horror films, I'd give it 8/10.

2021 and painting log

 Happy belated new year all!

Sorry for being quite and not posting anything, I have and still am at little unwell mentally currently, my anxiety is causing me alot of problems so it's been hard to paint anything with shaky hands!

However over the past 3 months or so I have got a few projects finished and some new miniatures painted as well!

So I've finally finished repainting my Reaper Bones Frost Giant for Frostgrave after trying to paint him twice before!  Used alot of GW Contrast paints on him and he's come out wonderfully!

Then we have two Northstar metal skeletons, also for Frostgrave.  I preordered these from the last Nickstarter they did for then new Oathmark plastic kit!  Lovely miniatures and will fit in nicely with the plastic Mantic ones I've painted.  You can never have enough undead in my opinion!

Next is my completed all female plastic Frostgrave warband, like the Barbarian warband these are the Northstar kit.  I ordered a couple of sprues form SGS Model Store a local Leeds based online model shop who stock alot of great plastic kits and sprues!
Again I've used GW Contrast paints for the majority of the details bar the flesh and metallics.  I was inspired by Luke at Geek Gaming Scenics YouTube video  on speed painting.

Next are four Reaper Bones Wraiths once again for Frostgrave!  Lovely miniatures, they came in packs of two and in clear green!  I bought them from Mighty Lancer Games a great Bridlington based shop and there prices for Reaper stuff us great value!

This is a Bad Squiddo Games Amazon that I bought back in December of 2020 in there little sale they had.  Lovely miniature and a real joy to paint too, I will be using her with my all female Frostgrave warband!

Finally we have this trio of Alternative Armies Flintloque miniatures that have languished on my painting table for a while now!  So I finally finished them and they've come out lovely!  I've almost finished painting the fourth figure I bought when I ordered these.  These are a Dogman soldier, a Savant Zombie Cuirassiers and a Wraith Line Private.  These are all so full of character and the two undead miniatures are resin in the main and were nice and crisp castings!  These are also the first Flintloque miniatures I've painted in quite a long time so it was nice to work on some of the newer miniatures!

15mm Undead and Frostgrave miniatures

I finished these 15mm undead at the start of September but forgot to put them on here as well!  They are from the excellent Alternative Armies range and are lead by a Tabletop Games wizard I painted as a Necromancer.  They will see some use in games of Advanced Song Of Blades and Heroes!

Next is my repainted barbarian warband for Frostgrave.  I painted these mainly using Games Workshop Contrast paints and happy with how they turned out.  I was inspired by Luke at Geek Gaming's batch painting video on YouTube!

Also some photos of all the miniatures I have painted for the Frostgrave bestiary bar my frost giant!  These are a mix of various figures from heresy, mantic, GW, reaper and a 3d print as well!

Frostgrave 2nd edition

This beauty of a book landed in the post on Thursday. I had pre-ordered it from Northstar as you got a free apprentice wizard figure with it too! It's a lovely full colour book and I'm planning on making my own gaming board and terrain to play it as well! I've finished all the bestiary save my frost giant as I wasn't happy with the paint job so once I've repainted him I shall put photos up of my complete bestiary and also the maufactuer as well.
Ow and the 2nd picture is my favourite illustration from the book, it's very Japanese like armour and helmet too!

Past few months

Well I haven't posted an update in quite a few months! I've painted a little off and on during lockdown, and finished some long overdue projects have had almost completed for a while.
I've been playing in an online RPG game using the classic British RPG game Dragon Warriors. We play Tuesday and Saturday night on Google Hangouts and I'm really enjoying it. I play a mystic (a mind power based magic user) who is a priest, have a look on YouTube for Grim Stream and you'll find James who runs the game channel as he steams the sessions there!
Ok so I've painted up a variety of things in different periods and scales too!
We have some 28mm Napoleonic French line infantry from Warlord Games, some 15mm Hammer Slammers infantry and Heshmite infantry from Ground Zero Games and lastly some 6mm Terran Star Authority infantry and 6mm Hammer Slammers Blower tanks from Brigade Models.

February painting so far

So far this second month of the year it's been a bit of a challenge to get much done.  I've had a bipolar flair up and my medications giving my anxiety levels a battering so shakey hands and restless nights sleep aren't helping my motivation.
I'm doing as much as I am able and that it really.
Got a trio of Alternative Armies 15mm trolls based to completion as they'd been languishing almost finished for well over a year now lol. They are on a warbases movement trays and will be part of my goblin Dragon Rampant army of which this is the first completed unit. I still have 3 wolf rider units, an infantry unit and the army General to do. In comparison with my 15mm barbarian army which need the General, giant, 1 more foot unit and 1 cavalry unit to paint lol.

I've got a 40k friendly competion gaming event this Saturday at M and L models in Pontefract so I've been trying to get 1500pts of deathguard done for it. So far I've done 5 plague marines and 37 poxwalkers. I've still got about 15 more plague marines as well as 3 characters, 2 blight drones, a rino and a blight hauler to finish as well. I'm hoping to get enough plague marines some to have two fully painted squads but we shall see! They have all had a sepia wash over a white spray undercoat so at least they aren't going to be bare plastic or just white lol. Well the 2 blight drones are still green and partly paint stopped but that's besides the point lol.

I've not kept on top of my weekly mortal realms magazine miniature but I'll get back to them once the 40k army's done and painted even after the competition is over. It'll be nice to have a fully painted 40k army for the first time in a long time the and they have such wonderful character and detail in them as well I love painting them i just can't get through them fast though due to the details lol.

I've painted another Frostgrave creature and this time it's a Genie. A wonderful metal model from Reaper. Done in the Disney style of blue skinned as well lol.

Finally I got around to painting my Arcane Hazards for Warhammer Underworlds Nightvault. I've had these for over a year now and they've been assembled, never used in game do I threw some paint on them as I'm getting regular games in with my mate Rhys who you'll be hearing more about in my blog as he's my gaming buddy lol. We had our session 0 of his dungeons and dragons Skyrim inspired campaign started Monday just gone and it was fun to play as it's been about 3 years since I last played an rpg and I loved being a barbarian again :)
We've also had a few games along with his other half Trina of the fun little game Elder Sign which I highly recommend by Fantasy Flight . If like myself your a H.P. Lovecraft fan then this is a nice little game for you!
